a fall inspired wedding at the blue dress barn in sw michigan

Meghan and Tom tied the knot this September at the Blue Dress Barn in Southwest Michigan. They had absolutely beautiful weather and Meghan had so many beautiful fall-inspired details! I love to see couples embrace the local area and elements to create a unique, beautiful and eco friendly event. Tables were adorned with burlap overlays, mason jars filled with fresh local apples and wildflowers and mini chalkboards used as table numbers. Mini canning jars were filled with sand and candles on the bar and local gords and mini pumpkins accented the gift table and cake table.

Escort cards rested on corks and were placed on a gingham-covered table accented with bright red apples. After the ceremony, which also took place at the blue dress barn, guests were treated to an iced tea and lemonade bar on the outdoor deck, complete with mini mason jar mugs! I was so excited to get these pictures from their fabulous wedding photographer Ben Pancoast, and am so happy we could be a part of this special day at the Blue Dress Barn!

a beautiful summer wedding at millcreek barns in southwest michigan

Earlier this summer we posted a few pictures from the Michigan wedding of Megan+Greg, the first wedding at Mill Creek Barns in Watervliet! I wanted to share some of the amazing professional photos we received from their fantastic photographers, Two Pair Photography, and I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed planning this fun Michigan wedding!

Mill Creek Barns has a beautiful outdoor ceremony area, but a traditional catholic wedding was very important to the couple, so the ceremony was held at St. Bernard’s, and we utilized the outdoor ceremony area for a fun and beautiful cocktail hour, complete with an outdoor bar featuring Michigan beers and wines, delicious passed appetizers by the always-delicious CK Catering, and a lovely iced tea and lemonade bar, complete with mini mason jar glasses.

MillCreek Barns has so many beautiful details throughout, making it such a unique and lovely venue to host your Southwest Michigan wedding. The grounds, which feature another barn as well, have so many areas to take beautiful photos, you can stay right on the property and still take some fantastic photos!

Each table was named after the location of an “adventure” the couple took, complete with a picture of them—Megan+Greg are quite the adventurers considering there were 20+ tables! The escort cards were planted in tins of grass with a hand-painted sign reading “find your own adventure.”  Check out our post on more creative table numbers we loved this season!

Centerpieces were created by Stella Event Design, using Hydrangea stems, and accented with stock and branches re-purposed from the pew arrangements created for the ceremony. Half of the tables were adorned with the large mason jar and hydrangea centerpieces, while the other half  featured candles made with small mason jars tied with raffia and paper flowers. The wood chargers used as centerpiece bases were purchased from a local artisan and are available to rent from Stella Event Design.

Montage, out of Kalamazoo, rocked the barn and the dance floor was literally packed all night long! Guests came armed with boas, hats, and silly masks to create their own fun on the dance floor—it was an incredibly fun party and celebration of this fun couple!

katy+ken::basilica of the sacred heart at notre dame

In August, we coordinated the lovely wedding of Katy+Ken, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. The ceremony was held at the beautiful basilica at Notre Dame, and if you’ve never seen it before, the basilica (and the whole campus) is absolutely beautiful. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think rainy wedding days can be just as good as the bright and sunny days—I think umbrellas can add a really fun accessory to pictures, especially if you’ve got some big ones to cover your group. Ben and Dan had it covered with some great umbrellas to keep the bridal party dry and happy!

The reception was held at the Heritage Center in St. Joseph, and one of my favorite parts of the night was the couples creative changes to the traditional bouquet+garter toss. Katy threw her bouquet off of the balcony, which is always fun, and Ken switched things up by serenading Katy in lieu of a garter toss, and he did a fantastic job singing along with the Matt Reed Band (who were rocking the whole night, they were amazing!)

jess+bryan::a lake michigan wedding at the veranda at the whitcomb, St. Joseph

On July 11th we planned the wedding of Jess+Bryan on beautiful Lake Michigan, followed by a reception at the Veranda at the Whitcomb in St. Joseph. Today I came across a few of the first pics from their fab photographer Brooke of Brookelyn Photography in Washington! It was an absolutely gorgeous day (about the best weather you could ask for if you’re having a beach wedding) and I’m so excited about how great the pictures turned out—check out Brooke’s blog for more!

lisa+bart::a beautiful wedding at the blue dress barn in southwest michigan

Saturday was supposed to be rainy with record lows in the 60’s (in July!) but instead, it ended up being the perfect weather for a beautiful outdoor wedding in Southwest Michigan! Lisa & Bart are an absolutely fun, hilarious and stylish couple, and it was a lot of fun to help Lisa bring all of her details together on her wedding day!

The ceremony was held on the grounds of the Blue Dress Barn, with the reception held afterwards in the historic barn. When it comes to a beautiful wedding location, it’s hard to beat the Blue Dress Barn in Southwest Michigan—it has so much charm and detail on its own, you really could do absolutely nothing to it and still have an amazing location! yana+brannon::southwest michigan wedding at shadowland pavilion and the heritage center

Yana+Brannon were married at Shadowland Pavilion in St. Joseph on Sunday, June 27th with a reception following at the Heritage Center. We started planning this wedding about 8 months ago, and right from the start they knew they wanted to make this an entire weekend their guests could enjoy, since they were all coming in from out of town. The weekend festivities started on Saturday with a “day at the beach” for friends and family, complete with wave runners & refreshments. Guests were then invited to enjoy dinner on the rooftop patios & lounge at Port 412 downtown.

On Sunday morning the atmosphere was created, draping the pavilion with hundreds of yards of bright pink fabric, and filling the area with orchids. I absolutely love the look of a chuppah, and this one is one of my all-time favorites! Guests were shuttled to the ceremony site and greeted with glasses of sparkling champagne with raspberries. A string quartet announced the brides processional and after a jewish reformed ceremony, guests proceeded to cocktail hour at the Heritage Center. I absolutely love the way the Heritage Center turned out—-chocolate and cerise linens, submerged orchid centerpieces, a vodka ice luge, and pink uplighting on all of the walls. Chocolate martini’s and grapefruit kiss martinis (pink and brown) were served during cocktail hour. Even the food  followed the color scheme with salmon gateau and shrimp cocktail among the appetizers. A delicious meal was served by the Bistro while the band, Me & The Boys, fired up the dinner music! This is the second time I’ve worked with Me & The Boys and they do an absolutely phenomenal job!

The night was full of Jewish & Russian traditions, and you could tell how excited this couples family and friends all were to be together and celebrating with Yana+Brannon, it was truly a joy-filled celebration! Thank you so much to Yana+Brannon for allowing our team to be a part of your big day, and I hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon in Greece!

Check out a slideshow of Stefanie+Jim’s June 13th wedding, courtesy of their wonderful photographer Carlos Ortiz. Carlos was wonderful to work with, and really captured the spirit of this couple—he’s located in Chicago, but obviously travels, so if you’re currently searching for a photographer for your 2010 wedding in Michigan (or Chicago), check him out!

It rained all morning, until about an hour before the ceremony, but Stefanie and her bridesmaids didn’t let it keep them down, or from capturing some really cute pictures! Who says you have to have clear skies to have a beautiful and fun wedding day—-just roll with it and it will be amazing, I promise!

Megan+Scott {10.11.08}

(Photos courtesy of Chad Bosma)

I apologize for the tardiness on this post, but I was so busy that day I didn’t get a chance to snap a single picture, and wanted to wait for pro pics to share! Saturday, October 11th marked the end of our 2008 wedding season, and we couldn’t have asked for a nice day, and a nicer couple! I’ve been working with Megan for the last couple of months to help her pull together all of the details for her wedding. Friday we began setup at the hall, and once things got started I left Becca, my assistant for the night, behind and headed to the rehearsal. The rehearsal (and ceremony) were at the absolutely beautiful Centre Meeting House on Morris Farms. It’s the cutest little wedding chapel I’ve ever seen!

Megan’s aunt Pat, who is the mayor of a local city, officiated over the ceremony and the 2 of us spent about an hour running everyone through the ceremony and making sure everyone was ready for the big day!

Afterwards, Megan+Scott headed to the rehearsal dinner and I headed back to the hall to finish the decor setup.

Saturday morning I headed to the rental company to pick up the table for the unity candle and a few linens for the reception hall. I arrived at the meeting house to setup a few things before the bridal party arrived. The Flower Cart dropped off some beautiful arrangements for the church and I proceeded to pass out all of the corsages, boutonnieres and bouquets. Megan chose small bouquets of roses for the mothers which I thought was a beautiful alternative to the usual corsages. Renaissance Strings provided absolutely beautiful ceremony music, and their ceremony was very sweet and personal. My favorite part was Megan’s grandfather reading “Blessing of the Hands,” which I will share in another post.

After the ceremony the bridal party headed out for pictures with Chad Bosma and I loaded up flowers from the ceremony and headed over to the reception where guests had already arrived and began to enjoy appetizers as Mark from Music Express provided dinner music. After dinner was served the dancing began, I sliced up the cake and everyone had a ball dancing and celebrating Megan+Scott!

Thanks again Megan+Scott for letting me be a part of your day!

A Fall Wedding on Lake Michigan!

Is it just me, or was Saturday the most beautiful day for an outdoor wedding ever?! Look at that amazing water! I may be a little biased because it was my last outdoor wedding of the year, and I was so absolutely thrilled that we shook off the rain from the week before and came out with a gorgeous day for a wedding on the shores of Lake Michigan! While we patiently wait for the pro pics from the talented Kelly Powers, here are a few I snapped of the ceremony and the little details we put together for this special day! I’m always so happy to see the end results of our full-service weddings and how it all pulls together…they are some of my favorites!

The Setup:

Beth and I arrived at the beach at 11:00 to setup chairs and put the final touches on the ceremony setup. Kelly was so fun to work with, and really gave me a lot of room to flex my creativity on this wedding which was a lot of fun, and it was so awesome to see her love everything we put together for her! We wanted to keep things simple and natural since we had such a gorgeous backdrop, so we did some simple gerber daisy and dune grass arrangements on the chairs, made a focal point at the front using driftwood and dune grass, and lined the back of the chairs with more dune grass, which is hard to see in pictures (sorry!) All of the gorgeous flowers were provided by Crystal Springs Florist.

Even though Kelly chose a fall palette of dark reds, oranges, yellows and greens, she fell in love with a bright pink bouquet, so we made the entire ceremony area bright and cheery using pink, and incorporated her fall color palette into the reception. The pink really popped on the beach, and I loved that there were sailboats all over in the background! At 3:00 Kelly+Russ said ‘I do’ in front of 54 of their closest friends and family, accompanied by beautiful harp tunes provided by Carl Payne (by the way, harp music is just perfect for the beach!) The ceremony was conducted by Kelly’s brother in law and was very personal and touching!

Some details:

Monogram: we based all of our printed materials off of a monogram created by April at Blu Sky Designs and we couldn’t have been happier with it! We incorporated it into the table numbers, favor tags, and even dropped the flowers into the menu cards!

Favors: Caramel apples from Kilwins were wrapped up with orange and green ribbon and raffia and set out on cake plates for guests to take home. These were a huge hit and I ate mine today—so delicious! Kelly also bought adorable light house ornaments for each family (you can see it in the box in the lower left pic) which was a really cute idea in honor of their beach wedding!

Kids’ favors: Small tin buckets filled with Legos (the couples favorite toy). Each bucket contained the pieces to make one car, and the couple put it together ahead of time and took a picture (rolled up in the scroll of paper) so the kids could see what they were making! The kids LOVED this, and had so much fun sitting at their table and making their Lego cars!

Cake: Cupcakes! There were cupcakes covered in large daisies in red, orange and yellow and they were delicious!

My pictures don’t do this beautiful wedding justice, and there are so many other fabulous things from this wedding I just can’t wait to share (but I will) so more to come! Thanks Kelly+Russ for being an absolutely AMAZING couple to work with! I was so happy to help create and share this special day with you both!

Don’t forget to comment here by midnight tonight for a chance to win the MissNowMrs.com gift certificate!

Kelly & Zoltan’s Wedding at Shadowland Pavilion in St. Joseph

On Friday, the weather forecast looked bleak for this weekends outdoor wedding, but luckily, it was an amazingly beautiful August day! No professional pics yet, so you’ll have to suffer through my personal snapshots, which don’t do this beautiful event justice!

Kelly+Zoltans’ wedding weekend started with setting up decor at the DANK Haus reception hall, a German heritage club in Benton Harbor. Kelly chose a beautiful palette of emerald green, fuschia and crystal accents. We worked with Kelly to create a simple and bright decor design, including green table runners, glass floating bowls filled with shells and pink mini gerbers, and swarovski scatter crystals.

Saturday morning I arrived at Shadowland Pavilion to meet the rental company for delivery of white wooden chairs for the 2:00 ceremony. We set up the 200 white chairs to face the river and lighthouse, with a beautiful scuplture acting as the backdrop for the altar area!

I also got the chance to meet up and chat with 3 clients that are getting married at Shadowland in 2009! If you’re getting married in an outdoor public location, you can learn a lot by stopping by to see your site in action (if you can do so without intruding on the event) which you can at Shadowland! It will give you ideas on setup, logistical issues that may arise (like where you need to place your chairs for shade!) and little issues that could arise (like leftover decorations and sidewalk chalk left from the ceremony the night before!) So if you’re tying the knot somewhere like Shadowland, head there and check it out, and you’ll be happy you did!
