come see our new look

(the new colors of Stella Event Design)

Unless you visit this blog via a reader then you’ve probably noticed our new logo, look and color scheme! I used our new color palette as inspiration for our first bridal show booth, and we’re headed out shortly to set it up! I’ll be honest, it has been a whirlwind couple of weeks trying to get everything together for this first bridal show and I’m excited to see how it all turns out!

I’m excited to hear we will have some blog readers stopping by and I can’t wait to meet more of you! We’ll have tons of pictures from weddings to show (some not even shown on the website or blog yet!) and we’ve got several giveaways for you to enter! Wedding World is tomorrow, January 31st from 12:00-3:00 at the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center, with a fashion show to follow from 3:00-4:00.

On Tuesday we’ll be featuring a gorgeous (and fun) polka dot inspired wedding that is one of my new favorites and one you don’t want to miss!

fave of 08::me+the boys

If you’d like to do something to make your wedding fun+exciting, I suggest you consider live music! I can’t remember the last time I attended a wedding (as a guest) with live music, but it’s always a hit at weddings I’ve coordinated! My favorite of 2008 was Me and the Boys, an eight piece swing orchestra out of Northern Indiana. They were absolutely incredible, and everyone was blown away by their fun, retro style that kept everyone dancing!

In 2009 we’ve got at least five weddings using a variety of live music, and I’m excited to hear them all in person and pass along recommendations to all of you considering live acts for your 2009/2010 celebrations!

fave of 08::bring on the color!

Kelly was an incredibly fun bride to work with! She’s a spunky gal, so it was a no-brainer that we could pull off something a little different with her wedding! Kelly chose a deep fall color palette for her September 27th wedding, using dark reds, oranges, yellows and greens! She gave me free range on selecting centerpieces, and we came up with the lovely design above, courtesy of Crystal Springs!

However, when it came to her bouquet, Kelly fell in love with a bright pink and kept coming back to it despite the change in color palette, so we decided to roll with it! Instead of trying to force the wedding into one color scheme, we used a bright pink color palette with green accents for the beach ceremony, and carried the fall colors throughout the reception.

It turned out amazing, and I’m glad we did it—don’t let anyone put you in a box when it comes to your wedding design. Go with your instincts and have fun!

etsy love birds

I love etsy, but I don’t visit nearly enough (or buy enough!). But, I was looking through this morning and saw these darling “love birds” made from rescued wood by Dolan Geiman in Chicago. Absolutely adorable! If you’re not hooked on etsy yet, now is the time to start the habit! I think this would make a really eclectic valentine’s gift (not that my husband would even know what Etsy is!). A girl can dream–but for now I’ll just continue window shopping!

fave of 08::chapel love

I absolutely adore the quaint chapel on Morris Farms where Megan+Scott hosted their October nuptials! The building had so much charm and character, and it was absolutely adorable! Plus, there was an old fashioned school house on the same grounds that was a great spot for some unique post-wedding pics with the bride and groom!

Don’t forget to investigate your ceremony location, reception venue, or local area to locate some fun and unique places to snap some post-wedding pics! Grab your fiance and make a date day of exploring fun photo locations, and you’ll save a ton of time on your wedding day and have some amazing photos!

fave of 08::bright+bold color combo

Tracy+David hired me to help them with their decor, and I had an amazing time helping them put together a design concept using their bright+bold color combo of pink+orange! Along with the fun color combo, Tracy also wanted to incorporate crystals as an accent. We brought color into Foundry Hall with HUGE pink+orange paper lanterns (you can’t tell, but they were about 3 feet in diameter), bright pink table runners, and pink+orange rose petals.

To tie in the crystals, we used swarovski scatter crystals on the table (I love these!) and also used crystal tree centerpieces on the two larger tables. All in all, this setup was one of my favorites, despite it being one of our most difficult of the year, having to secure the 20+ huge lanterns into the beams of Foundry Hall! Well worth it—this wedding was gorgeous!

vendor meet-up::amanda beeman

Friday I had the pleasure of meeting up for coffee with Amanda Beeman. Amanda recently relocated from the Detroit area, and will be the new Events Director at The Veranda at the Whitcomb. Amanda and I spent over three hours chatting about her past experience in events, her excitement for her new position, and her love for all things wedding.

Amanda has several years experience working in events, and is a newly wed herself, so I know she is going to be a joy for brides to work with and a huge asset to brides planning weddings at The Veranda at the Whitcomb. She was also nice enough to pass along a few pictures from the first wedding held at the Veranda at the Whitcomb! If you’re interested in hosting a wedding at The Veranda at the Whitcomb or just have questions, you can reach Amanda via email at abeeman@stjoebanquets.com!

It was a pleasure meeting you Amanda, and welcome to the area–I think you’ll love it once all this snow melts and you realize you are in a beautiful lake shore town!
